Once you know a baby can smile, that becomes your get that smile out of them. Here Asa and I are using a hand each to coax Miss Astrid into beaming one at us. She’s just teasing us here.

This is where Asa likes to spend time with my arms. It seemed Forest was always there, and then suddenly he outgrew that. Now I think it’s a precious time as I know it will stop. Even today Asa didn’t get much of this cuddling and carrying, as I was holding Astrid most of the time.

Jen, the boys, the family, are all becoming so comfortable with, and so used to, the “new addition”, who in less than two months feels as though she’s always been there, and is changing so fast. Babies feel almost from day one as though they’ve always been in your life. Special times, especially as seen from the perspective of a “senior”…

Coming back to home base from appointments yonder… The sea was so calm after the winds of the weekend had departed..

Closer to home, the sea was frozen and chunky..the sky etherial. All so peaceful, nature trying to make us forget how fierce it can be. I was taken in…calmed.

Another day of being housebound by weather, but a perfect day for rearranging my studio. As I work I can look over at Susan’s house…

..where, if you look closely, you can see her working in her studio, in the tower. Both of us playing with fabric, alone, but sensing the other one there.

Terrible weather outside, but Susan spent the time inside to her advantage, making new curtains and pillow covers for the motor home. We’ll be the ones to put it all up in late May, and get the first feel of the “new” look, but Susan is doing all the work …doesn’t seem fair.

Frank and Matt spent ages pouring over maps of Alaska, and then looking at a computer trip planner. Frank’s first order of business is to get a Satellite radio for the motor home. We were all having fun thinking about the summer trip as the winds, snow, rain, ice, all happened outdoors.

A birthday smile from a friend from my Ontario high school years, living right out here on the eastern shore! Still feels unreal. A gathering of friends who are all interested in wood working…another thing that didn’t come up in the Ontario days. I like it.    Well, not too sure how interested the women are.., but we all share a love of good food, and we had that.

This is what Matt and Susan bought today…Susan’s arrival a few days back was a surprise, but she was here with a purpose too.  This was an exciting day, witnessing the purchasing, being part of the “redecorating” committee for the interior..discussing plans for the trip.

It was all smiles and cheers to the new adventure..a summer trip to Alaska for the Swiss family, and…guess who gets to drive the motor home to Alaska to pass it over to its owners, after many weeks of exploring there ourselves? Well, I gave it away. YES…we are going on an adventure too. Good day, I’d say.

We keep seeing Canada Geese flying overhead,  but on a walk today we finally discovered where they land. I think the yellow chairs…one’s even a lounger! …make them believe they’re down south, so why make the effort to migrate?

A beautiful, full sun, warm day. The roads are difficult to drive, but the walking was just fine, except for stepping up to our mid calves now and then, in deep snow.

So sunny, I had to pull out the big sunglasses…note…no hat, no scarf. If only all of winter could be this splendid.

The sun was so eerie this morning…

Though we both love the smell, feel, look of a wood burning stove, we have propane. It was a necessity with our house design, but we have come to love the ease of its use. Today it kept the cold at bay, and made us feel all cosy and warm indoors. Let the snow fall! ( Well, not necessarily.)

We took Matt to visit former churches, now homes. This one came with a wonderful view of bald eagles.

..and a sweetheart cat (the owners are lovely too).
