On our return drive we spotted this surfer..feels as though there is a story here.

image

Lovely scenery, and I really love the look of the cows to the left…

image.jpg

..this is blurry, but gives you the idea…they are Belted Galloways…a hearty breed of Scottish cattle often called “Oreo Cookie Cows”… One of the oldest cattle breeds in the world.

We came back to a lovely presentation of a play..spotlit and all. Great memorizational skills in these young minds. So cute.

Asa will draw at any moment, anywhere. “Cloud” approves. Wonderful to see children’s passions emerge, and last a lifetime.

Went for an overnight to visit with Will’s mum. This is the view form the house on the Kapiti Coast. That is Kapiti Island out there.

image.jpg

We walked over to trails leading down to the beach..

image.jpg

The scenery was stunning on either side..the land..

image.jpg

..or the sea.

image.jpg

The fences were covered with shells…

image.jpg

..so much fun…

image.jpg

..like this surfboard bench back by the house. The countryside, the city, the sea..we’ve covered them all now.

Frank babysat for a few hours while Will was at school and Jen and I went into town. While we were gone, he made applesauce with the boys, to use in cookies he was making with them, then formed Popsicle sticks out of wood and made applesauce Popsicles out of the leftover applesauce. He also made three dimensional cubes and pyramids with them,  made lunch and entertained Astrid when she woke from her nap. We decided that Frank could be a Grandpa Woofer…given room and board in exchange for entertaining children.

image.jpg

Jen and I had a blast in town…loved to get alone with each other. Afterwards I weeded till dusk…with some help from Frank and some consulation from Forest. This was the house inviting me in for dinner.

image.jpg

Jen and children preparing dinner… sitting on the counter..such a childhood memory it evokes for me.

image

Rain threatened all day, but I was still able to weed, Jen still went  out a few times for the animals, the  boys still played outside collecting natural objects  for a craft, and..

image

Frank worked on part of the deck, prepping the kitchen cupboards to be painted white. Too bad weeds grow back, compared to renos. When Will returns each evening from school,..

image.jpg

he too often works on the house. Buying a one bedroom home that wasn’t designed for a young family, and slowly working to convert it to a three bedroom home..needs a starting point. Jen had pealed off wallpaper, then we arrived. Then we will leave, and will be so curious to see the house next year. Shades of what we just went through with our reno. Genetic? On all sides?

Jen, Astrid and I went for a long walk of the property , accompanied by our fans.

image

We went over hill and dale, as the saying goes, and..

image.jpg

Astrid perfected her climbing through fences skills.

image.jpg

The scenery is quite wild in places…inside the boys were being wild and the big guys did more work on the house. Now off to work… Laundry, weeding, drawing for the boys, washing dishes , or working on the jigsaw puzzle? Correct if you guessed …all.

We took the train, done up in my favourite colour combo..to Wellington, about 2 hrs. away..

image.jpg

We waited in front of this great museum, if you ever visit here, for Nils, our neighbour, in the summers, on Spruce Court, but who lives in Switzerland . He is here on a school exchange.

image.jpg

We’ve known Nils since he was 5..a pleasure to watch him become this adventurous, mature young guy. That is Wellington in the background..the sea, the cliffs, it smelled like “home”, or where we used to live.

image.jpg

Nils knew the cool place to eat. Great stories of his past few months on his exchange …a good time.
