On Friday I turned 70! and all I had wanted for my birthday was to have all our family with us. That would have been 19!  from 4 children we’ve multiplied to 19.  So…clever, amazing children …this happened. Our son Ryan and his sweet family had arrived, and Drea and her family joined us for dinner. When the cake was presented, Drea followed with the computer, and on a joint screen, there was the California and the New Zealand family.   And there were tears!!!

I was instructed to open a certain gift in view of the computer..

This was cause for many more tears. Seventy things that the children, their fabulous partners/spouses, and their children, love about me!  The best birthday. I couldn’t sleep at night thinking about those 70 things. Feeling very young at heart at 70!

Look who came to visit….Miss Harper…there is an almost 70 year gap between us…but that doesn’t mean we don’t get to laugh together!

Lots of lovely things have happened since I last wrote, but I was in one of my “spaces” of not writing…that’s how it goes.  Sometimes I just let myself complicate my thinking about this blog so much that I can’t feel free to do it.

Over this weekend, we’ve had our beautiful granddaughter Caleigh visiting us, on a university break for American Thanksgiving. This photo is of 3 generations. There is the youngest, Noah. His mom, Drea, is a large factor older than him, but next week she will be twice the age of her niece, and I will be almost twice the age of Drea. Drea’s birthday is one day before Caleigh’s and mine. To get us altogether on, or so near, our birthdays, has never happened before. I was at the birth of everyone in this photo!  So you see, I was compelled to do a blog today!

Another walk around the pond on Monday..

..with the current gang. Fun to have the dog, the kids, and the grandkids! felt very special.

We spotted this fellow as we were looking out towards the basin. It’s always exciting to see bald eagles.

We also spotted the small red squirrels we have here…but actually, we’ve spotted some recently of the large grey variety of Ontario fame. We’re just so used to these chipmunk  sized red heads.

Finn and Noah found a “fairy house” and proceeded to decorate it.

aw…the faires will be happy to find this.

By the time we left, the view had become misty, the clouds had set in, but the day remained very unseasonably warm…but what is seasonable anymore? We enjoyed the day..full stop.

A wonderful surprise happened on Wednesday, and when I was completely exhausted from planting 10 bushes and 2 young trees, with help from Nora!  These beautiful flowers appeared! Frank had received a message from Jen, in N.Z., to go to our Wolfville market, open on Wednesday p.m. , and pick up these flowers she had ordered for us, from Seven Acres Farm. They are so authentically garden flowers, not imports, just amazing, colourful, natural. A lovely little event at the end of a long day, and for no special occasion, making it an occasion!!

Well, it’s been almost a month since any word from this blog site. I have to admit to a truth I know…it’s easier to do something daily, then sporadically. When I had a daily commitment to this blog, I was “on it”.  Once I gave myself leeway, as doing a daily blog takes time, it was not a big jump to not doing it! So, here I go, trying to get myself back on track. It’s September, after all, when we are programmed for things to start up again. : *Our first days back from Ontario, we were “gifted” with watching Noah. Noah was a great help mulching the gardens, and very involved.

Then came a weekend when Noah’s parents were here too, and they were put to work as well.  Here Jockel and Noah removed two bushes and their roots! to prepare for a new tree this coming weekend. Noah is using the shovel he requested for his birthday! a true gardener.

Drea was working in the front…moving a tree forward in the garden. Notice her “supervisor” to the left.

..and then Nora and I planted 9 bushes and two young trees…a real feat! on a very hot day. One more tree to go and it’s all done for this year. Whew.

Flowers that Nora brought…all wild…they lasted a week. The word is out…I love flowers.

So, part of not doing the blog was not knowing what to write about anymore, but the blog  has always highlighted the things I love. Nature, gardening, flowers, friends, family, creativity…wow, I’m getting myself psyched up to keep going!

It will be sad to leave this sweetheart tomorrow..

..but time’s up, jobs done, and we must go..

.. and our holding duties draw to a close…

..but Aunt Rebecca will continue to help out when she can. Other family and friends will step in.

It was great to witness how serene parenthood can look …..when really there are always those unphotographed moments..the crying babe, the middle of the night calls of duty…the exhaustion. It’s wonderful to know that we leave our newest grandchild surrounded by love.

Can’t get enough of watching a baby change before your eyes!

Tired happy parents…a new member of the family arrived in mid July, and we haven’t met her in person yet. Torture! But technology lets us see little Harper daily. I was waiting to get there and take my own photos, but I couldn’t wait to share any longer!

She’s plumping up, growing by the moment. Next week she’ll be in our arms.  Meanwhile, she’s learning about her parents, her extended family, the dog, and heat. But most especially, she’s learning about love.

Our son Ryan and his beautiful wife Tori now have a darling baby girl, born last week. It’s hard not to see the young sweetie in person yet, but Facetime  is wonderful for the interim. The family is doing so well…so happy for them…even the dog is at ease with the new addition. So delighted to have Harper join the family. We are 19 members strong now! Life is good. My goal to to have everyone gathered in one place…take the photo…see it everyday…but our kids live far and wide, and the older grandchildren are scattering too. This will be a challenge..the photo…but I can live in hope. Meanwhile, we couldn’t be happier with another healthy grandchild…that’s the joy! and the couple becoming new parents, doting parents…such a sweet time!
